LAKE GARDA 42 – First Edition 2022
The first edition of LAKE GARDA 42 took place on the first weekend of April from 01 to 03 April 2022.
A debut edition with a strong international character. With its side events, it attracted 2000 enthusiasts from no less than 37 countries to the shores of the upper Lake Garda, counting a very high numbers of women: almost half of the participants in the LG21 half marathon were in fact women.
The firstto cross the finish line of the LG42 marathon , which started in Limone sul Garda and ended in Malcesine , was the Scottish Alexander Wallace, who stopped the clock at2:22:47 , beating off competition from Lorenzo Perlo of the AVIS BRA GAS team, 7:14 behind, and Matteo Vecchietti of the Atletica Valle di Cembra team, who finished the race in 2:32:19.
Regarding the women, arms raised for Giorgia Venturi of Podistica Ozzanese, who crossed the finish line with a time of 3:15:42. The rest of the podium was taken by Malgorzata Krasicka-Knoll from Poland, 5:26 behind the winner, and third place went to Lisa Aichholzer from South Tyrol’s ASV Freienfeld team in her first marathon experience in 3:25:18.
In the beautiful setting of Arco di Trento, started the LG21 half marathon, which ended, like the marathon, in Malcesine and which attracted equal participation of women and men.
In the women’s race, the Greek Andrianna Vasilatau won with a time of 1:27:09 over Alessia Mira from Bolzano and the Italian-American Mary Elizabeth Wieder of the KM SPORT TEAM finished third, 2:56 behind her.
Among the men, the LG21 trophy went to South Tyrolean Tom Arent Van de Plassche with a time of 1:14:00; the rest of the podium was occupied by Welshman Geraint Williams and Frenchman Radouane Alimokbel from Paris.
The first edition of the KIDS RUN was also successful, a course of just a kilometre and a half open to all children between the ages of 5 and 12 years, which was held on Saturday afternoon at the Riva del Garda, the event’s headquarters.
Not only sport experienced at the highest level, but also fun, discovery of the territory , and the organisational synergy of three provinces and three regions that gave life to an event that brought an atmosphere of sporting festivity to these areas of Lombardy, Trentino, and Veneto, to celebrate the rebirth of amateur racing.
